The Chicago Cubs have traded Tommy La Stella to the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The move came a day after the Cubs acquired Ronald Torreyes from the New York Yankees.

La Stella, 29, set the Cubs' single-season record with 24 pinch hits last season, compiling an .813 OPS off the bench.

The Oakland Athletics have acquired right-hander Tanner Anderson from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pittsburgh will receive a player to be named later or cash.

Anderson, 25, made his Major League debut this past season. He went 1-0 with a 6.35 ERA in six outings spanning 11⅓ innings for the Pirates.

The New York Yankees have acquired James Paxton from the Seattle Mariners.

New York sent three prospects to Seattle -- left-hander Justus Sheffield, outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams and right-handed pitcher Erik Swanson.

Paxton went 11-6 in 28 starts last season with a 3.76 ERA. His 208 strikeouts ranked ninth in the American League.

"I couldn't be more excited about it," he said. "It's going to be a fantastic opportunity in New York, always expecting to win, the way I do. I'm looking forward to being a part of a fantastic team."

Paxton made $4.9 million last season and is eligible for salary arbitration. He can become a free agent after the 2020 season.

The Houston Astros acquired infielder Aledmys Diaz in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, giving up minor league pitcher Trent Thornton on Saturday.

Diaz played both at shortstop and third base for the Blue Jays last season, hitting .263 with a career-high 18 home runs, 26 doubles and 55 RBIs in 130 games. His production improved after the All-Star break, with a .290 batting average and OPS of .856 in the second half.

The Chicago Cubs have picked up the option on left-hander Cole Hamels' contract for the 2019 season, the team announced Friday.

The Cubs also traded left-hander Drew Smyly and a player to be named to the Texas Rangers for a player to be named.
